Last week, I wrote about how certain chemicals, called phthalates, that are in many common cosmetics and household products contribute to poor indoor air quality. But phthalates aren't the only offenders. Especially in the winter and hot summer, when houses are shut tight with indoor air circulating and recirculating, the air in our houses can become very polluted from our toxic household products, off-gassing of flame retardants from electronic products, and from the chemicals in new carpets, traditional paint and building materials, and from the foam and pressed wood used to make a lot of modern furniture.
